Popcorn Ceiling Removal

It is "in with the new" and "out with the old!"  It is "in" with flat and "out" with popcorn or high texture ceilings.  Popcorn ceiling removal is an easy and affordable way to dramatically improve the look of your home’s ceilings virtually overnight.

Popcorn is one of the most common ceiling textures used in homes. Unfortunately, it’s also one that causes the most problems. It can flake off when it’s touched, turn an awful shade of yellow and you can’t paint it without risking your ceiling falling all over the floor.  Without the right professionals working for you, popcorn ceiling removal can be a messy job - very messy.

If you're knocking down popcorn ceilings or re-texturing, white dust can get everywhere, and ceiling painting involves dripping paint; both of which could ruin your home's interior if not properly covered.  The popcorn can find its way into your carpet, your furniture, upholstery and even your duct-work!

Chenal Painting can remove the popcorn ceiling texture for you.  We have the tools and knowledge to perform ceiling re-texturing and ceiling painting in your home without the mess or the hassle.

Most homeowners leave ceiling painting and ceiling re-texturing to the professionals like Chenal Painting Company because it is a difficult task; it requires hours spent on a ladder and proper room preparation.

The process includes first and  Protection of everything.  Walls need to be covered with plastic. Floors need to be covered with plastic and taped accordingly.  The areas within the home or business which are having the popcorn ceilings removed need to be compartmentalized in order to reduce dust from traveling into other areas.

Once protected, you can either wet the ceilings to remove the texture or dry scrape. This process will have to be determined at the home. Once wet, the texture is simply scraped off and it falls to the floor.  This is then cleaned up immediately to minimize dust travel. The ceilings are then left to dry, most likely an overnight process. Afterward, the ceiling is floated with mud compound to protect the substrate and to provide a sand-able surface.

The following process depends on which ceiling refinished look you are wanting to achieve. Would you prefer a light orange peel textured ceiling?  Or would you prefer a Spanish style texture placed onto your ceiling?

After the finished texture has been applied, it is time to prime.  Usually, completed with an acrylic drywall primer (or high stain-hiding water-based primer), this step is necessary to eliminate potential stains from the sheet rock telescoping through the newly painted ceiling.  Once this primer coat dries, up to 2 finish coats of paint are applied.
